Product Description

Bacchus patiently awaits his shipment of 2016 grand cru Bordeaux – 2016 being one of the highest rated vintages this century. Meanwhile, he came upon this new to the local market 2017, ready to go Bordeaux, that is drinking above its weight class.

The 2017 Chateau Darzac, from the small family estate of Claude Barthe in the Entre-Deux-Mers, has landed and is ready to satiate your desire for typical and satisfying red Bordeaux.

The Entre-Deux-Mers is generally known for its white wines – but this estate – operating for more than 200 years, produces a remarkable Merlot, as its soils near the Garonne River replicate a Right Bank property.

Along with parcels of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, the Barthe Estate blends and gently ages the wine in neutral oak for finishing.

Like most 2017 releases, this is ready to drink. The Darzac shows round, forward and fleshy sweet fruits, soft tannins and a chocolate-covered plum finish.

Given that the US is always flooded with less expensive négociant red Bordeaux, the Darzac’s value, flavor profile and existence gets overshadowed by the behemoths of the industry.

It’s a given you could probably walk into a supermarket and find a low cost Bordeaux that’s not bad and palatable for whatever you need – a good Tuesday night with meatloaf kind of wine.

But we really liked this Darzac – for the same money as the other wines, you’re getting an estate wine — not a conglomerate of grapes. You couldn’t guess the price on taste alone.
