Product Description

Bacchus was surprised to see this selection end up at his door, given its prestige and market presence.

The 2015 St. Innocent Pinot Noir Zenith Vineyard from Eola-Amity Hills in Willamette Valley comes to us as the end of the vintage and that means big savings for you.

There are many things to like about this offer; first, St. Innocent is an upper echelon producer in Oregon, and the Zenith Vineyard is the winery’s estate property. That means, the most select, cream of the crop berries are farmed and only used for this bottling; Next, the winemaker told us that the 2015 vintage was the most perfect growing conditions he has seen in 29 years.

We had to have a look for ourselves. Oregon Pinot Noir resembles French Pinot Noir from Burgundy rather than other New World Pinots. When done correctly, or when done in the truest fashion, Pinot Noir will appear lighter, thinner than many red varietals – but don’t let that fool you, because what you don’t see in color density, you realize in aroma, flavor, but most importantly to us, anyway, pairability with food.

Let’s not forget that wine is purposely a beverage to accompany food – a match that creates another level of cuisine that neither the food nor wine alone could produce.

What did we learn from our tastings: The Zenith opens with a crispy, fresh blast of red berries – deeply aromatic, accented with spices and varying degrees of earth, tobacco and flora. You wouldn’t know it just by visual clues, but this wine packs a punch of cherry and even mocha.

Yet another choice for our Thanksgiving table, but we can see why a wine such as this would be a first choice to accompany a wild Salmon cooked on a cedar plank over a grill. Holy cow would that be awesome with this.

Wine Enthusiast did drop 92 points on this wine, in our humble opinion, that is way too low.

“This wine is a standout among St. Innocent’s 2015 Pinots. It’s firm, dark and toasty, with full-flavored black-cherry fruit accented with dense veins of espresso, charred nuts and chocolate. The structure supports those dark notes, and the chewy tannins and lengthy finish amplify them. Drink now through 2028.”

Just a chuckle among ourselves – the notes say good through 2028 – given its attraction now, we are not optimistic a bottle will be available in 10 years.
