Product Description

Bacchus came across this ready to drink Chateauneuf du Pape recently and its new, generously applied bargain price – a tip of the hat to our well meaning suppliers.

The 2014 Les Granieres de la Nerthe CdP is a blend of Grenache, Mourvedre, Cinsault and Syrah.

The base of Grenache brings its telltale bright berry and garrigue nose to the mix, while the Mourvedre’s deep red, plummy-posh mouthfeel is integrated nicely, never overwhelming the cuvee.

But it was that little bit of Syrah, at 15%, that stood out. The bacony, grilled meat component was noticeable and truly appreciated, almost pairing with itself in the glass!

The 2014 vintage was noted for its rainy summer but beautiful fall. The resulting weather made for softer, more approachable wines, with less tannins and indeed an early drinking style.

That’s what makes this CdP enviable – it is something to sink your teeth into now, instead of waiting the usually 5 to 10 years and struggle through the layers of tannic structure.

Not all the CdP makers were able to put forward a good wine, some of the fruit made its way down to lesser bottlings.

But the Chateau La Nerthe farmed wisely, hand sorted and vinified the best berries – earning 92 points for the effort.

This wine needs no extra time in your wine cellar – it is ready to drink, and at this price, you can drink it even on a Tuesday night.
