Product Description

Bacchus summonsed one of his favorite suppliers and requested a bottle of an old friend he saw languishing on a listless, forgotten portfolio.

Hoc non potest non esse!” he said in Latin. And as we all know, means “Can’t be!”

It was the 2010 Chateau Beaumont, a Haut-Medoc Cru Bourgeois. Not a forgettable or ignorable wine. Especially from a sweetheart of a vintage like 2010. Somehow the final handful of cases had escaped sale and sat ignored, growing in strength and elegance over the years after its release to 91-point acclaim.

Beaumont is an old property in Haut Medoc, first operating as a vineyard at the end of the 1700s. Sitting between Margaux and Saint-Julian, its red varietals of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot enjoy the deep gravel soils, which allow for good irrigation and vine strength.

The property is now in its 12th ownership, currently run by the folks who also own Château Beychevelle.

Bacchus sampled the wine – mind you the bottle had been opened for at least three days and had not lost a step.

This is why we buy Bordeaux: The approach was powerful, at first a little muddled aroma, but after a moment in the glass, hints of plums and berries surfaced, and after a revisit hours later, mocha and earth, and still fully structured. It dominated a pairing with meatballs bolognese.

Our wine critic friends posted this 2010 at 91 points and while predicted it would last for several years, that was then and this is now.

It is ready to go, but don’t feel bad if you want to hold a bottle or two for another year or so, your rewards will also come.

It is very good right now. Except, there’s not much more. Stunning price for this.
